====== Calibre for DRM ====== I bought a Kobo Touch, but I use linux as my desktop OS. For that reason I am trying to streamline the process of getting Ebooks from the local library but being able to transfer them to by kobo. I hate being forced to use Windows but since the ebooks have DRM encryption, it can't be avoided.

The purpose of this procedure is not to enable piracy, it is to remove proprietary bits from data which I have legitimate ownership to.

1. Install the Kobo Desktop software in Windows

2. Install the Adobe Digital Editions software in Windows

3. Install Calibre in Windows

4. Download the tools bundle and install the deDRM plugin into calibre

5. Add a DRM epub into calibre, and verify that you can view it in calibre - meaning that the DRM has been removed by the plugin - and more importantly that the calibre-adeptkey.der has been generated from the Adobe DE installation

6. You can now boot back into linux, install calibre and the same deDRM plugin into calibre

7. Copy the calibre-adeptkey.der from your Windows installation into your .config/calibre/ directory

ian@ian-D505 ~/.config/calibre $ cp /windows/Documents\ and\ Settings/Ian/Application\ Data/calibre/calibre-adeptkey.der . 8. Add a DRM epub book to linux calibre and it should now work to decrypt the book ian@ian-D505 ~ $ calibredb add The_Seven_Spiritual_Laws_of_Superheroes.epub IneptEpub: Using libcrypto. IneptEpub: Calibre configuration directory = /home/ian/.config/calibre IneptEpub: Keyfile calibre-adeptkey.der found in config folder. IneptEpub: Encryption successfully removed.
